Monked and Fifed

From the moment we woke up, John and I knew that we had a busy day ahead of us. We were adjusting to life as the parents of three kiddos and this was one of our first attempts at "life as usual" since baby Liam had arrived. My lists were made; I was feeling ready...."We are going to conquer this day", I thought, "we just need to cork the "little springs in the dam" before things get nutty, that's all."
Scoff...

Being a mama for almost seven years, I know that 2+2= bagel more often than it =4. We mamas know that it takes more than logic and strategy to make a task happen. And so, with our multitasking skills being put to the test and our dinner guests on their way, my metephorical dam finally broke. Our big boy, "Monks", and our daughter, "Fifi" had been playing out in the yard when suddenly, they came blowing into the house with what seemed like the sound, force and mess often associated with natural disasters. John and I stared at each other wordlessly, eyes wide. What just happened and what are we going to do about it?

When the silence finally broke {and we had determined that neither of the kiddos were actually hurt}, John looked at me and simply said, "we've been Monked and Fifed". I just could not stop laughing! Our efforts had been thwarted by our kids... just being kids. As parents, we are Monked and Fifed pretty regularly, but I feel that living with these little saboteurs makes our successes that much sweeter. That is what this space is about; this mama making her way through her life and giving due attention to all of the pieces that make up that life... I'm prepared to be Monked and Fifed {and eventually, whatever our 3rd little bean decides to add to the mix} all along the way. This journey can be unpredictable, however I am looking foward to sharing the thoughts, experiences and creative endeavors which make this life one I would not trade for the world.

  1. Love it! Beautifully said! I am really looking forward to your future blogs. Your new little bean is so cute! :-)
I'm expecting my second one in August. I'm a little nervous over how our calm routines will be turned on their heads, but I am so excited to meet this little girl!

  2. Congratulations to you!
True, your calm moments may be less frequent when your baby girl arrives, but when they happen they'll be just that much sweeter.

I'm so happy to be found in my new space!
    You made my evening.
